Flow through the Grooves of Journal Bearings

چکیده

A simple analysis of fully-developed Stokes ow in grooved bearings is performed that does not use lubrication scaling arguments as in Muijderman (1966). When the inertial terms are ignored, the Navier{Stokes equations decouple. The ow through the groove is then determined from a Poisson equation for the only component of velocity that contributes to the ow through the bearing. This velocity is further decoupled into that caused by shaft movement and that caused by the pressure di erence across the bearing. Rectangular groove ow rate predictions are compared to those of Muijderman. Flow rates from semi-circular and irregular groove cross-sections are also presented. Comparison of calculated oil ow for a production-level grooved bearing shows good agreement with experimental measurements from a bench test rig. Thermohydrodynamic Characteristics of Journal Bearings Running under Turbulent Condition

A thermohydrodynamic (THD) analysis of turbulent flow in journal bearings is presented based on the computational fluid dynamic (CFD) techniques. The bearing has infinite length and operates under incompressible and steady conditions. In this analysis, the numerical solution of Navier-Stokes equations with the equations governing the kinetic energy of turbulence and the dissipation rate, couple...

Nusselt Number Measurement of Air Flow between Grooved Rotor and Stator of a Generator

In this article, turbulent flow heat transfer in the air gap between rotor and stator of a generator under nonhomogeneous heat flux is studied experimentally. The rotor consists of four symmetrical triangular grooves. The stator surface is smooth and does not include any grooves. The relative heat flux between the rotor and the stator is 1 to 3. Temperature and heat flux are measured locally at...

Laminar Motion of the Incompressible Fluids in Self-Acting Thrust Bearings with Spiral Grooves

We analyze the laminar motion of incompressible fluids in self-acting thrust bearings with spiral grooves with inner or external pumping. The purpose of the study is to find some mathematical relations useful to approach the theoretical functionality of these bearings having magnetic controllable fluids as incompressible fluids, in the presence of a controllable magnetic field. This theoretical...

Numerical Analysis of Fully Developed Flow and Heat Transfer in Channels with Periodically Grooved Parts (TECHNICAL NOTE)

To obtain a higher heat transfer in the low Reynolds number flows, wavy channels are often employed in myriad engineering applications. In this study, the geometry of grooves shapes is parameterized by means of four angles. By changing these parameters new geometries are generated and numerical simulations are carried out for internal fully developed flow and heat transfer. Results are compared...
